Lawyers that handle injury cases usually accept those cases on a contingent fee basis. The lawyer and the client agree that the lawyer will only be paid if the case is successful. That means either the case reaches a settlement or the case proceeds to a trial and a verdict is returned in favor of the injured party.
The fee will be a percentage of the amount of the settlement or jury verdict. The client does not pay the lawyer an hourly rate. The lawyer does not collect his attorney fee until the case is resolved and the settlement or jury verdict is paid. Most lawyers will meet or talk over the phone at no charge. If you hire a lawyer on a contingent fee, then you never “pay” the lawyer directly. The agreement will say the lawyer is entitled to collect their fee once the case reaches a resolution.
I take injury cases on a contingent fee basis and am always happy to chat with folks to see whether I can help and whether they would like my help for their situation. If you have any questions, please give me a call.
